LONDON - BARBADOS
Silk Scarf
Created in celebration of 59 years of Barbados' independence, the Sweet Blue Silk Scarf pays homage to heauxm while embracing the rhythm of London life. Measuring 30 inches square, the design is an abstract Bajan cherry using the national colours of blue and yellow. We want to tell a story of pride, creativity, and connection within the diaspora.
The broken trident on the Barbados flag symbolises the break from Britain. The trident belongs to Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Breaking it represents Barbados gaining independence and severing its colonial ties. When Barbados achieved independence in 1966, this powerful symbol was chosen to represent the nation's transition from colony to sovereign state. Designed by Grantley W. Prescod, the flag of Barbados was officially adopted at midnight on 30 November 1966—the moment the country gained independence.
